Travel-Bug Tales: A slice of Franklin pie......America's old capital Philadelphia!
Welcome back my lovely darlings! I must apologize for the lack of posts for the past three weeks that I have been on holiday, but travelling to 6 different cities in America and spending time with family as well as friends meant that I hardly had time to write. Perhaps the good bit of news is that I now have too many photos that I want to share and shall have reason to do a post on each of the cities I visited! The first stop in my American travel posts series is Philadelphia.....the former capital city and the home of the Liberty Bell which symbolises American independence. Ben Franklin Bridge
A beautiful stroll on a sunny day, as the giant sky blue metal structure with pedestrian walkways running along the side provides the perfect view over the river and the city of Philadelphia.

Love Park
On first glance it looks more like a little concrete circular space rather than a scenic park, but as you look closer to see couples strolling past hand in hand, the elderly sitting down for a chat and tourist taking photos at the LOVE sculpture which the park has been named after.....you start to realise how important this small space has become for locals in this busy city.

City Hall
An old administrative building with a tower, that is still in use today and proudly sits in the city centre with William Penn guarding over it. The City Hall Tower is open to public, but it is advisable to book ahead to ensure a free time slot to fit you in.

Reading Terminal Market
Known as "America's Oldest Farmer's Market" is certainly good as a lunch spot for the great variety of food and fresh produce. Blueberry pie, peanut butter coated pretzels and New York cheesecake are amongst my favourite of the foods I sampled there....including some taken away for a spot of tea later that afternoon!

Shofuso - Japanese House and Garden
A peaceful garden to spend a little time thinking in Zen and admiring the structure of the house as well as garden....where different layers of a painting seem to come alive.

Franklin Fountain
If you happen to love ice cream like me, then this would be a great place to make a stop! Franklin Fountain's yummy hand-made ice cream is likely to bring you back in sweet time....and the decor is likely to thrill vintage enthusiasts!

Shane Confectionery
If you happen to have had some Franklin Fountain ice cream, then it is worth popping into their sister store Shane Confectionery for a bag of old style candy to take home!

Near Penns Landing
To complete the day tour, we took a little walk across Penns Landing to the river and gazed back across to Ben Franklin Bridge.
