How-To: Do 1930s to 1950s....a Vintage inspired twist to glitz-up your evening look!

Rita Hayworth and Fred Astaire
With only three days to go before my vintage themed birthday do.....it's all getting a little exciting and I am still finalising my 1920s Great Gatsby inspired look in my head! So I thought it might be helpful to think about building other vintage looks too...just in case any of you lovely darlings are attending a vintage party or in need of any inspiration!

To me, the real glitz and glam began in the 1920s but evolved into a deeper feminine state towards the 1930s....which carried on through to the 1950s because of an addictive fascination with the glamorous silver screen. The 1930s was not a trouble free decade by any means, as the Great Depression and WW2 began broiling in the backdrop of society. But with all the unrest came an opportunity for many to sooth their sores in the world of cinema.....and so the age of the silver screen sirens began captivating the world! There were shifts in day wear becoming more practical as WW2 shook the world and fashion seemed to have halted for a period of time, but many kept their lovely evening dresses and made the most of what they had! Even today, many of the styles, shapes and cuts can be found on dress rails in high street stores.....and emulating a particular shape or style can be a great way to put a vintage inspired twist into your look for the evening! So here's a quick picture map of what I have discovered so far that might be helpful in building your own Vintage inspired look.....

Before I scurry off to bed to prepare myself for a full on day....of helping out with make up and hair at a shoot for a short film....followed by an evening of a new adaptation of the Great Gatsby at Wilton's Music Hall (London).....I hope I have offered some interesting pickings for those of you who have the excuse to shop, and also some inspiration for those of you who want to revive some pieces or revamp a look from your existing wardrobe! Have fun my darlings....and keep being fabulous!

Until the next time,
May xx
